Soft tissue therapy is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues within the body, which includes our muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia or connective tissue. Manual therapy is a broader term and includes the above, plus the movement and mobilisation of joints. Both hands-on techniques aim to reduce pain, increase range of motion (where appropriate) and improve the mobility, strength and function of the body.
Soft tissue & manual therapy can be applicable to anyone that is trying to prevent or recover from a muscle or tissue injury.
Sports massage is based on classical Swedish massage, with the addition of advanced soft tissue techniques. It is often now called Soft Tissue Therapy and aims to identify and then reduce stress and tension within the soft tissues of the body.
This style of treatment tends to be deeper than other massage therapies and usually includes movement, stretching and strengthening.
The treatment will always be tailored to you and your individual requirements. It doesn't have to be painful!
